"An army." Finn looks to his people, to Wyatt and Wyatt's men, and to the tent city. The cruel calculus of war shows clear in chocolate-colored eyes that are being slowly leeched of warmth as his mind ponders the variables, his gaze turning to hard and cold as an old leather breastplate left to long in the snow and ice. "These common folk should seek a natural shelter in the mountains, a valley or pass that is defensible."

He turns back to Tristan, "Your Step-Father needs to be verified most of all. He has influence. If I could subvert the enemy in time of war, a man like Tristan would be my first choice." Finn nods, and looks to Wyatt now, "Zach should be the first you check, Wytatt. Then have him check others. It shouldn't take long if the ones that are 'clean' keep checking the others."

Finn slows Blake until he is on Wyatt's opposite side. He looks ahead now, his expression impassive. His eyes, however, remain cold.

Faylinn looks around at the group, the landscape, the tents... "If you choose to follow that path and need assistance finding a location that is safe for them," she offers as she steers Poppins to follow on Blake's tail, "I have the means, one way or another, without risking additional men."

With that statement, she falls silent, reaching for her arcane senses again to see what she can find.

Rebecca doesn't bother dignifying his assessment of Tristan with a response. She knows. Just like Wyatt knew he needed to get to his brother.

"Hidin' in the mountains ain't gonna do a thing but starve 'em. Snow's already creepin' lower down. Winter's gonna be harsh."

Rebecca directs her next words to Wyatt. "Told T 'bout the Deep Warrens yet?"

Wyatt nods at Finn, his jaw setting again. Singer is stepping to and fro, nervous.

Cimarron yields very little to her magics, if any at all. It feels somewhat similar to the Shadow with the Cabin in this regard.
Everything that can be accomplished will take a long time to achieve and the results are likely to be unsatisfactory.

In spite of that, she can hear the call of earth deep within the mountain. A long, steady call. Caves, perhaps. Mines. Faylinn isn't sure.

Wyatt looks at Rebecca intensely as he finishes buttoning his shirt and pauses for the slightest moment, "Had ta... 'Bout three months ago. We've a half cache left, if it gives ya 'n idea." He turns to Finn and says, "Supplies. Dry goods and such. Not 'nuff ta sustain these folks fer much longer."

"Good," she nods. "Jist checkin'. He needed ta know. Maybe Finn can do somethin' 'bout more supplies, if he's willin'."

As soon as Wyatt's shirt is back on, she eases up on the reins and Demon is off like a shot. A shot that holds itself to Singer's pace, but no longer standing impatiently while they talked.

Faylinn frowns slightly and nudges Poppins up beside Blake. "It will be slow going to accomplish much in the way of mage-work here," she says quietly to Finn, pitching her voice to carry just to him. "There are caves or mines in that mountain, but that is as far as I will be able to get without a period of study much like the one at the cabin."

She hesitates, looking in the direction of Rebecca, and when she continues, still in that quiet way, there's a hint of wryness in her voice. "Do you suppose she will sit still long enough for me to ask about the customs of acquiring a horse here, or shall I just make it up as I go? I mislike the idea of pushing this mare much further in areas of low and unknown magic; the patch may not hold."

Kade arrives in time to overhear the comment regarding magics, he frowns and sighs before calling forth his own arcane sight to check the local level of Dweomer.

Arkadios can see little to no potential for magic in Cimarron. He also confirms: the Black Road does not cross this Shadow, even though the potential is there.

Finn nods to Rebecca, "I can lay in more supplies, but it will cost us time. With the Road only a Shadow over, it will also cost us a bit of trouble. I am more than willing to fortify this place, as I have already said." He pauses, "But we do have our orders. Those defenses must be established for Amber, or what is done here will not matter."

He falls back to ride with Faylinn, and leans towards his sister slightly. "Perhaps the caves will prove a refuge. No deep study. This place is not safe and I've the feeling we'll need everyone's hands." He smirks slightly, "I'll ask Tristan if he can spare one in trade. I've been here before. I'll tell him Poppins was hurt, and she needs a break. He'll understand that, I'm sure." He turns to Arkadios and raises his voice slightly for the other man to hear, "Same for you, Kade. Try not to get too lost in metaphysics, considering the trouble we've already run into."

Rebecca nods to Finn, then her attention is elsewhere, scanning the grounds they ride through for that familiar head of silver hair.

Rebecca does not see Uncle T and when Wyatt notices, he shakes his head in the negative and begins riding ahead of the group alongside her.

"I had no intention of doing another deep scan," Faylinn replies. "I will wear myself out if I do too many of those today. I was considering a different sort of look around... but I think it will be best if I wait until we know how far they range from this place." She gave Finn a slight smile. "There are a great many people with guns here. I would appreciate it if you speak with someone, but please do remember that I prefer to choose my own mount."

Finn nods to Fay, "I will let you choose. There are bound to be solid choices. If not, you can always pull one from Shadow."

"Wyatt? Do you have horses for sale or trade?" Finn nudges Blake forward, "And can we hurry?" He turns to Rebecca, "I am going to see about adding supplies to one of the many barns, anyplace that might have been overlooked. It's bound to cause some ripples, and there's already trouble here." He pats Blake, "You can pour it on, Blake will take care of me along the way."

Finn falls back a pace, and focuses his mind on the Pattern. Once again, he works shadow and probability like a weaver creating fabric, and tugs gently at the necessary threads. He will attempt to add an overlooked cache of food and other supplies, as well as more ammunition. He will do this until he is certain that the work is done, and keep his senses attuned for Tristan's appearance or any trouble that Blake might detect -- if he encounters resistance to changing probabilities, he will test to see if the manipulation will make the Shadow vulnerable to the Black Road. If it will, he will not proceed with the changes.

Wyatt nods quickly and says, "Sure! We've more hors's than men right now. We can bar'ly handle volume right naw..." He looks at Faylinn and says "I'm sure we can find ya somethin' suitable, Miss."

...

Finn is able to achieve his goals as he makes his way to the makeshift camp around the Lone Pine. It seems one of the old barns has a cellar door with plenty of supplies cached behind.

...

Faylinn notices something peculiar when she enters the camp. Towards the outskirt, there is a horse that is in a makeshift stall by itself. Whereas the rest of the temporary paddocks hold ten to twenty horses each, this one was arranged to keep this horse separated. More intriguing is the way the horse perks up when he sees the group approach camp.

...

Arkadios can see the effect of Finn's work. The Pattern at work upon Shadow is a tremendous thing to witness.

...

People all around, mostly men armed with rifles but also some women and children, are looking at the newcomers with interest. No one approaches them at all. The camp extends about a half mile radius around the Lone Pine, white army tents, paddocks made from barn debris and recently cut trees. A lot of the men are wounded and look uncouth, dirtied up as if they'd been working in coal mines. There's a noticeable cough going around the camp as well. Most of these people won't make it through the winter without homes and supplies.

"A thousand curses on their heads," Rebecca mutters darkly. But there was a look in her eye that told Wyatt at least that she she was calculating options. "How far did some of these folks come? They ain't all from Silver City, are they?"

"Finn, if ya could manage some antibiotics in that stash, I'd be much obliged."
