If we find a banquet space, the con costs will be much lower than if we organize the games in suites. Buuuut, if we game in suites, we get a little more privacy for the games and gaming is a little more intimate and we are less likely to be distracted.
Feel free to share your experience from AmberCons as well as other Gaming cons from the past to weigh on this subject! |

I'm thinking the cross-conversations of multiple adventures going on @ once will be too distracting, though it may be the only feasible possibility when it comes to price.
Optimal idea would be suites for each session, but that may be tough on the pocket-book.
Renting out a couple suites and dividing them each in 1/2 is a good way to go.
Most of them have those dividers in for such a purpose. Last day we can open them all for a big adventure or something.

ACNW and ACUS both use suites -- but the suites are mostly paid for by the people staying in them.
So, for example, at ACNW (McMenamins Edgefield Bed & Breakfast) you can get a $30 / night discount on your room if you let us run games in it. At ACUS (Embassy Suites) they just ask people to volunteer their suite-style rooms for games. Both cons successfully get enough spaces to run without feeling the pinch.
At ACUK where the hotel rooms are simply not big enough to run games, we rent several small meeting rooms, rather than any one big room.
Just some thoughts.
(I'm just back from ACUS - www.ambercon.com - where I had a blast, so I'm full of posting energy ) _________________ Simone Cooper, Organizer

That's a great idea! And it's honestly enough to convince me to go solely that route... With the hotel research I've been doing, I think it's entirely doable. There are several venues that will be perfect for this.
I've found fairly affordable suites out here, and at this point I'll just need to make sure the rooms will be large enough to host games of at least 6-8 people. |
