Name/Nickname(s): Marvin or Marv (AKA "Finarvyn" on the boards)
Age/Birthday: Um ... 46? I tend to lose count.
Location: Chicago Suburbs, so I won't be attending any Arizona game conventions any time soon.
Occupation: Physics teacher
I've been playing RPGs since I was in middle school in the 1970's but didn't discover Amber until the 1980's. I picked up Nine Princes in Amber and took it with me on vacation to Lake Erie where my family stayed for several days in a cabin in a park. (The cabins were named by color, and by an odd coincidence I was sleeping in "Amber" cabin. ) From that point on, I was hooked.
I was an avid reader of Dragon magazine and this ad for a "diceless" game kept grabbing my attention. I had no clue as to how "diceless" would work, but I loved the Amber setting so I finally got around to sending in money and getting this book. Once more, I was hooked. I subscribed to Amberzine (starting with issue #3) and bought everything Amber Diceless I could find. If a 2E rulebook comes out, I'll be in line for that, too!
In 2000 I finally got to play in one of Erick's games, at Chicago CONclave which was being held at the same hotel as an anime convention. I got to experience some of Erick's "experimental role playing" sessions and some Amber role playing as well. It was a fantastic weekend and I had to blow off my regular gaming group in order to play in Erick's games. (Okay, so I brought my gaming sister along to try it on the second day.) Playing in Erick's world was great, but getting to sit around for several hours talking about Amber and game design was even more fantastic. Erick and I exchanged a few e-mails and message board posts, and pretty much everything he told me was like gold. I miss him a lot.
I don't play Amber Diceless as much as I should, because I'm the main GM for our group and they like OD&D/C&C becasue it's more traditional. I'm thinking of dusting off my ADRP campaign again really soon, and am looking forward to hearing about whatever gaming is happening there in Arizona.
Sorry if that's too long an intro post. We old guys ramble a lot. _________________ Finarvyn
Amber Diceless player since 1993.
OD&D player since 1975
