Poppins is remarkably calm and lets Rebecca clean the wound on her right shoulder. The slug can be seen next to a small bit of dislodged bone. Poppins is breathing hard and shakes her head from time to time, but is trying hard to remain still.

On the horizon, all can see a large black cloud of fire and smoke blow to the sky where smoke was rising earlier. Soon, the fire seems to spread toward their intended passage.

The fire does not seem to be an effect of the Black Road, nor local magic.

"Yes," Faylinn agrees as she rubs Poppin's forehead soothingly. "And if it goes as bad as it might, riding double is likely to slow us down. I mislike both choices."

Rebecca fishes in her duster pockets a moment and pull out a pair of long narrow tweezers and a bottle. She pours part of the contents into the wound. "Hold on a moment more, Poppin. I'll get this out of ya."

She glances briefly at Faylinn. "Ya ain't gonna add any significant weight to either horse. Neither one is running full out anyhow 'cause we had to keep to the mare's top speed. Blake an' Demon can go a lot faster. If Poppin's to keep up, she's not gonna be able to carry a rider. Be damned if I'm just gonna leave her out here."

Rebecca leans in and carefully removes the bone shard first before working out the bullet as quickly as she can.

Poppins struggles a bit, but Faylinn and Rebecca are able to handle it. Quickly the bit of bone and the slug is in Rebecca's hand, but the wound continues to bleed. No ligament appears damaged.

Finn had answered Rebecca's question with, "I ask because mine is, and one never knows."

With the end of combat, Finn reloads and immediately stows his weapon. He turns to Kade, "Good work with the storm." Then walks over to Poppins and the ladies. He scowls at the horse's injury and nods in agreement with Rebecca. "No, we won't leave such a brave girl out here to die. I need ot go check on the men we put down, see if one is alive enough to answer questions. Fay, you're with me, we'll ride Blake. If no one has the arcane skill to heal Poppins, I think its best of Rebecca and Demon get on now, before more shooters decide to show. Kade you go with them in case Rebecca needs arcane cover."

Finn pats Blake, and nods at Kade, "You owe him a steak, I think." He takes in the others, "Are we agreed?"

Kade manages a smile for Finn, "A steak it is then. Rare I assume?"

He then moves over to look at Poppins and makes a thoughtful humming sound as he studies her wound, "I think I might be able to temporarily heal her, but I think I'd need to maintain the effect whilst we are moving which would limit my ability to use my sorcerous ability elsewise, I might also enhance the normal horses to allow them to keep up with our two wonder steeds, but that would likewise require my full attention."

He shrugs and smiles, "Worth a try at least I'd say, at the very least it offers an alternative."

Since Finn is de facto leader Kade waits for his response.

"Perhaps," Faylinn offers, "we might be able to work together. I am far better at growth than healing, but they are very similar."

Rebecca gives Poppin's ear a gentle tug and strokes down the length of her muzzle affectionately. Then she went over to Demon and tugged his head down so she was eye level with him.

Can you find the path from here?

Yes. Demon nudges her shoulder a bit. I can feel that we're close.

Rebecca nods to her horse. She collects the rifle from where she left it and takes a moment to reload. Jerking her arm to snap it shut, she walks over to Finn.

"We're close enough to feel it. I reckon I could go it alone if need be. Up to you fellas."

Finn eyes the arcane pair, and nods. "Anything you can do..."

He turns to Rebecca, "I don't doubt that you could. My only concern is that there has been one too many Arcane events, and I'd hate to have you riding out on your own should something like that happen. We happen to have an even number of Psychics, I think teaming one with each of us is best, and Faylinn and I have countered trouble before." He gestures towards where the men they shot should still be. "I'm hoping to get some answers. Black Road or not, this was fairly well directed."

Finn turns to Faylinn, "When you're done with Poppins, we'll ride out." Back to Rebecca, "I know the way from here." He smiles a bit, "I remember it well."

Even the very real flesh of Poppins is no match for Faylinn's and Kade's determination and skill in repairing it. She makes a strange sound, foreign to horses, as the magic occurs and needs to be calmed down when the thing is done.

It is possible that the wound opens again, but for now it is a neat and faint scare on her right shoulder.

She regards Finn in silence a moment before nodding. "Aw'right. I ain't likin' all this so close to Cimarron. I know we warned 'em about what could happen, but they're still jist men. Good men, but there's only so much a bullet'll take care of."

Rebecca pokes him in the chest. "Be careful."

Then she turns and heads back to her horse. "Kade, yer with me."
