Ariana's smile fades, "I'm sorry, your Highness! I thought it might be best this way! I-I guess I can't take the circus these people can involve..." Somehow April gets the impression that she is telling the truth but that there might be more to it than she lets on.
But then again, it could be April's sense of paranoia being off a bit in a new place, who knows.

Ariana takes a deep breath and says, "Are you ready, Lady April?"

April laughs. "Not really," she admits, "but that's pretty much my day in a nut-shell. Can't stop now. Bring 'em on!"

One by one, or at least in groups of two or three, the tailors share their creations, gowns, suits (with pants!), shawls, jewelry, shoes, boots, and any other appropriate accessories. A hair dresser comes in and proposes to do her hair, nails, make-up, the whole works.

Ariana appears to take charge to facilitate the process.

Amid the wide array of styles and colors, April and Ariana find a white suit of lovely pants with a tight jacket top (very 17th century european nobleman, with a flair of swashbuckler), they also find a lovely gown with a yellow top and white puffy bottom. Other colors and styles are available but these are those that match the color choice discussed earlier.

After long minutes to try to recover what is left of the tatters of her composure, April looks over the two major choices.

She sighs. "The social price for wearing the one with flair is to occasionally wear the girly-girl one, isn't it?" she asks Ariana, though it seems largely rhetorical.

...

"Well," she says, "let's see what effect the gown has on ... people."

Ariana thinks for a bit and looks at other possible choices. "I suppose it will do. What sort of impression do you wish to make tonight?"

She looks for jewelry and accessories that will match the gown.

Ariana taps her chin lightly as she thinks.

She begins what may seem like a monologue and continues unless interrupted, "Well, let's start with this, do you want to stand out or blend in? Either way all eyes will be on you, so blending in might not be an option... Let's see... Restrained elegance, restrained ele... Hmm. Well, we could have you wear something a bit classical but I have to admit, this white and yellow dress is a bit... juvenile. Definitely. That would bring about a sense of refreshing youth and innocence. It is elegant but not quite restrained."

She sighs, goes through a pile of 'proposed' outfits left by the visitors who can still be heard outside arguing in hushed tones. Then she continues talking to herself as she looks at every outfit again. "There are so many styles and colors to choose from! I'm not sure what we're supposed to do!" Then her face lights up and she dives into the pile of clothes again and digs out a deep blue dress with golden threads embroidered in its long sleeves and around the v-neck opening. It is a lovely dress, elegant and mature, and the neck opening would not reveal anything inappropriately.

"But," April replies, "if I wear that, everyone's going to ... I mean ..." she flaps her hands around helplessly, trying to put words to whatever it is she's thinking.

Finally, stumped, she sighs. "Wow," she says, "that looks very grown up."

Ariana bites her lower lip and asks, "Is it too grown up? I mean... Hmm... I just don't know.

They can hear the faint sounds of horns announcing the start of the feast. Ariana looks worried, "We're going to be late! Lady April, we have to choose now!" She looks excited and nervous all at once.

April startles. "Okay, that one!" she says, pointing at the blue dress. "Oh God," she says, a moment later. "Okay, okay ... no big deal. That one. I'll be fine. Let's go!"

Ariana busies herself getting the dress open and finding Lady April appropriate undergarment for the dress.

With surprising speed, the dress is fitted and although it is a bit tight around the shoulders, it suits April very well... for a dress, anyway.

Ariana also finds a tiara, a jeweled necklace and matching earrings as well as a golden snake bracelet. "Here!" she says hurriedly, "These should match the style pretty well. Pick what works for you." She is panting a bit.
