"Hah! Don't get me started!" She takes his arm and continues walking. She seems in a better mood. "Maybe we can go look for Dad when we're done here... I can't imagine him being gone-gone, you know?" She keeps looking ahead. Ian gets that uncomfortable tingling feeling she might know something she shouldn't. Instinct? Family paranoia? Hard to tell.

The sun has risen, and it is again a lovely windy day in Windborne. They can both spot Master Elishu'hur and his two mounted soldiers patrolling the lands around the estate.

He glances over at her, wondering if she knows anything about Oberon's disappearance, and decides he's just being paranoid. "I think I'd like that. He's gruff, mean and downright out of control sometimes but you always know where you stand with him."

He waves at Master Elishu'hur and his patrol if they see Ian and Flora, otherwise they walk back to the Manor.

Ian get a sinking feeling in his gut, and he tests it before they get to the guards.

"Eric better hope so. If I know Oberon he's going to Royally, pun intended, fuck up Eric and whoever helped him. Corwin is his favorite."

He surreptitiously catalogues her reaction then smiles, all chipper, when he sees Elishu'hur.

"It's a wonderful day for a walk, isn't it? Could we speak to Lord Ashelt, when it's convenient for him? We just need a half hour or so to freshen up."

Ian does his best to hide both his disappointment and his anger when they get back to their rooms. It is a tribute to how angry he really is that he doesn't even bother searching the room when he gets back. At this point, he would welcome a fight.

Outwardly, he tries to be calm and offers Flora first use of the facilities to freshen up.

Surprisingly fast, she is cleaned and changed. She is now wearing a stately looking outfit of green with gold embroideries. Flora let's Ian know she will wait for him in the nearby yellow room.

"Fine."

He goes to wash up and decides on a hot shower. The steaming water fails to wash off the feeling of foreboding he has. Why was Flora so stupid as to get tied up with Eric? What did Eric ever do for her? Like most of the family, Eric probably thought she was a ditz. Letting his head hit the wall, he stands there in the shower, knowing how powerless he will be against Oberon's vengeance...or Corwin's.

His heart feels frozen in his chest, despite the lashing heat. April. How involved was she? She couldn't, wouldn't be stupid enough to...she's just a kid...part of him thinks. She's done a damned good job of taking care of herself, though.

He turns the water off. He has other things to fry besides himself.

He gets out and towels off, then carefully combs his hair and dresses in black and white, with a touch of silver.

He looks at himself in the mirror and smiles. Ian the Diplomat.

Right.

He goes to the yellow room, and knocks first.

"Ahem, come in," goes Flora's voice.

She is seated by herself on a big yellow couch covered in fluffy pillows of various shades and tints of fall leaves. She sets a small red leather-bound book and a fountpen aside. She smiles at Ian and asks candidly, "Feeling better and refreshed?"

"An oral agreement for several weeks as a sort of trial period should be fine... That should give each party time to formulate what they want out of this into a proper written agreement... Essentially, Captain Sigmer'Lune will refrain from exercising his right of force against the estate and keep track of the goings on in the lands of Windborne while using the North Tower facilities. It all sounds very reasonable but we will see. Before it is set, we'll arrange a meeting between the two men to finalize the agreement however they wish." Flora looks at him for a moment but says nothing more.

He thinks it over, then nods, with a slight smile. "That sounds perfect. If they both agree, then we only have Daniel to deal with later, and I'm sure you can pressure him appropriately."

He looks back at her. "So spill it. How involved in Corwin's imprisonment or death are you? He is alive, right?"

Taken aback, Flora looks up at Ian, nearly frightened. "Why.. I.. Yes, Corwin's alive! Thanks to me if anything. What's the matter?"

"Two things. One, Corwin is Oberon's favorite. Mom told me that more than a few times. Oberon is probably out getting another queen or something and is going to show up in Amber soon, considering all the crap that's going on with the Black Road. When he comes riding up and sees that Eric has crowned himself King, he's going to really fu....give the business to Eric."

She can see he looks relieved that she wasn't responsible for Corwin's death and in fact prevented it.

"That's going to spill over to Eric's partners. I'm glad it's not going to be you. Remember I told you I'd toss you over a cliff for April? I'd probably toss anybody else over a cliff for you. You've always been honest with me, you taught me how to dance, courtly etiquette, five good spots to punch someone in a dirty fight, things that nobody else would have taught me."

He takes a deep sigh and turns back to her.

"I'm just saying that the people I would die for is a short list and with all that was going on, especially some of the things April said got me thinking that Oberon would have been going after you, and to do that, he would have had to go through me first. Which of course he would have. I have no delusions about beating him in a fight, fair or otherwise. So maybe I'll live a little longer."

"I wish it were this simple, Ian... Oberon is not out looking for a new Queen, or if he is, he went too far to be found... He simply cannot be reached! And if he can, he won't ask you to go after me on his behalf if he finds it fit. He'll do that himself, I think."

She sighs and continues, "When it comes to Eric, I truly wish that my involvement with his government had been different, but I guess I've never been as good at reading him than I thought. Now though, things are different... We're all helping his Amber recover. You do know what he did to Corwin, don't you?"
