Ian looks around, wondering if the problem is that they are vulnerable to attack here.
"Isn't a tower going to be kind of claustrophobic, compared to..." He gestures grandly around him. "...This?"
He put some food in his bowl as well, sticking mainly to fruit he can identify. |

Flora also helps herself to the food laid out, pacing herself.
Sigmer'Lune answers, "To be truthful, they are used to tight nests in high places... And our primary interest is the high winds that move through the regions nearby."
He is quiet for a moment and says, "If it helps our cause, I can leave my men here while I deal with Lord Horlass myself. Perhaps this way you and Lord Ashelt will know this is not a ploy to cause them harm." _________________ AmberCon Arizona Webpage

April rolls her eyes. "Buncha prima donnas," she mutters, loud enough to be heard by those close by.
"Your people want to help you," she says sharply. "Heck, even I want to help you. You won't be doing any of us any favors if you run away on your own. All you'd do is show that you don't trust their strength, or their loyalties."
"The captain's still a part of the team," April says. "That means trusting your team-mates, and depending on them. That's how you show that they can trust and depend upon you." |

"Captain, if I didn't trust you, we would not be having this wonderful lunch. My question is just, is Lord Horlass going to cause problems in the future for you, your gallant people or your new allies the Ashelts? If the answer is yes, maybe the answer will be just like you said. Remove Lord Horlass."
He refrains from taking April to task over her prima donna comment. He wonders how long it would take Flora to teach April some diplomacy. |

"Hmm, I didn't say anything about trust... But the answer is no. He will not be a threat or cause trouble. Be assured, Lord Ian."
He turns to April. "I trust their strength and loyalty," he says somewhat harshly. "It is a matter more personal than anything else, as you can already gather, but I imagine that he expected the tribe to offer their allegiance to him at his father's death." _________________ AmberCon Arizona Webpage

| "Actually, Captain, you did say that you wanted to reassure Lord Ashelt and I that dealing with Lord Horlass was not a ploy to cause us harm. I don't suspect that of you. In fact, I would accompany you to Lord Horlass, if you'd have me. My main desire in that matter is to ensure that your people are not going to be left leaderless, should anything happen to their valiant Captain." |

| April nods at Ian's words. "Yeah," she says, "when you've got people who depend on you and expect you to depend on them, you don't get to say 'This is personal, I have to deal with it alone.' That's not how a team works." |

Ian walks over to April and gives her a big hug. "I forget how wonderful you can be sometimes." He kisses her brow before letting her go. "I love you."
Is it a bad sign when Ian gets overly sentimental? |

| April seems stiff, and perhaps a little tense at the sudden hug. "You're embarrassing me," she hisses, low, while Ian is near. |

The Captain is silent for a moment, eating as the brother and sister expose their ideas... and feelings.
"Please, Lord, Lady, I assure you that my lieutenants know what to do should something happen to me, not that I find the idea appealing, I assure you. This matter with Lord Horlass is not a matter of life and death, if you must know. Nowhere near anything this grave, I hope. But I have a question for you, Lord Ian, since you will overseeing our rapport with the Ashelts, would it be preferable to offer our services as a single group, in the event of my unlikely disappearance, or that our services be offered under my name and title and our agreement be between Lord Ashelt and myself as individuals, in your opinion?"
He sighs, "I am not a contract negotiator, nowhere near in fact, but I don't want to let these people down because of poor foresight on my part, you see?" _________________ AmberCon Arizona Webpage

April raises a finger, a warm smile on her face. "That's an excellent question," she says. "But I hope you'll forgive me if I give Ian an excuse to ponder it a bit ... there are a few things I haven't had a chance to say to my oh-so-affectionate brother, so if you'd give us a moment alone? Thanks. You're great."
Without waiting for permission or approval, April grabs Ian by the arm and drags him off toward the trees, into the wind outside and away from where anyone could hear.
[ Side-bar: Scene 3.4B - Argument in the Wind ]
They have an animated talk, with April gesturing broadly, and then return a little while later.
"Thank you for your patience," April says, sitting back down. "Please do carry on." |

Ian walks over to the Captain. "Can we speak together?" He gestures to the Captain to walk a bit away from his people. Assuming he does, Ian talks to him.
"Really, its up to you. You are the leader of these people, and they seem to look up to you and hang on your every decision. If you don't mind my offering, we could go speak to Lord Horlass, or we can ignore him. Either way, we should get the indecision out of the way."
"Regarding your question, I don't see why the treaty wouldn't be between your two peoples but signed for by the two Lords. You and Lord Ashelt. Unless you have some terminal disease or impending doom I should know about I would expect you would be in charge of your folk for a long time, and you and the Ashelts would prosper together." |

Flora finishes her exchange with Sigmer'Lune as they approach and turns to Ian and April. She smiles and begins to eat again.

"Certainly," the Captain answers and he follows Ian. He turns to Ian, eager.

"Lord Ian, I'm afraid I've made a big deal out of nothing. It will be best to ignore Lord Horlass as it is, and if it were to change, I would be happy to tell you first... The truth is that I don't wish to ever return there, but I wanted you to know that I would, and my reasons were twofold: one, that you would understand that the tribe is not to be brushed aside if its leader is dispatched elsewhere; and second, that you would see I am also determined to make things work for the good of all... I think there is great potential in this entire situation."

"No, nothing of the sort, no," he chuckles. "But I wanted to know what your thoughts were on the matter, since I am not accustomed to the lands closest to this pole of reality, much less its contracts." _________________ AmberCon Arizona Webpage
