"The Black Road that runs through Greymoor also runs to Amber. My cousins and brother and I were sent here to help hold this place, so that Amber - and the universe - might survive. I do not know if simply holding is the correct answer. I do not know if fighting is the correct answer yet. I need information, and allies." She hesitates, looking around at the faces before her. "I am told I should devour the spirits I meet to gain power. I do not choose to do so. I would rather ask for your aid instead. I will offer you what I may, so long as it is reasonable and will do no ill to me and mine."

A young lady, whose dark half looks heavily wrinkled, and the wrinkles twisted on her flesh to form strange and endlessly flowing patterns, asks Faylinn, "Why should we follow you and not despair? We have lost so much already to grant Greymoor what little help we could. How will it be any different if we help you?"

"I cannot return to you what you have lost," Faylinn answers. "I can try to find you an end to your suffering, when this is over, or a new place to start. That is a hope I may offer. But I cannot promise that there will not be dark days ahead - it would be a lie. My family and I are at war with this dark stain, this Black Road that seems to cross so many worlds on its way to Amber, and in war, despair is as common as death. I think you all know that, perhaps better than I. That dark path threatens the universe, threatens to tear it apart at the seams. The saving of the universe, of our own lives and the lives of those we may know and care about, is another hope I may offer."
